All you model train lovers — make your way down to the Grand Central Terminal for the 15th Annual FREE Holiday Train Show in New York. If you’re going to be rushing through Grand Central Terminal at some point this holiday season, we recommend you carve some time out to slow down and visit the NYC Transit Museum‘s annex at Grand Central, because their 15th Annual Holiday Train Show is up and running! The show is free and is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and runs through February 26, 2017.
The New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex and Store is filled with lots of vintage Lionel Trains which run on eight separate loops of track. Presented annually by the New York Transit Museum, this popular model railroad exhibition features Metro-North, New York Central, and subway trains departing from a miniature Grand Central Terminal on a 34’-long, two-level “O” gauge layout. The Museum’s store also offers great gifts for your holiday shopping. Transit gifts are available online at www.nytransitmuseumstore.com. The Transit Museum’s Grand Central Gallery Annex & Store is located off the Main Concourse in the Shuttle Passage. KIDS: Also explore the Terminal with the Great Grand Central scavenger hunt! Get your clues at the Transit Museum store or in the booth in Vanderbilt Hall.
Lionel trains running this year include the Pennsylvania Flyer, the Grand Central Express, Metro-North, Polar Express. Additional miniature trains by American Flyer and Louis Marx & Company, also are on display. This year memorable characters from Maira Kalman’s next stop grand central will be watching Lionel trains as they zip, zap and whizz through their journey from Grand Central to the North Pole!
